At Little Florets Montessori, we understand that the toddler years (approximately 18 months to 2.5 years) are a period of incredible growth and discovery. This is a time when children are rapidly developing their independence, language skills, and motor coordination. Our Toddler environment is designed for young children as they embark on their first journey into a new environment and begin forming connections with others. With gentle separation and a smooth settling period, we ensure a comforting transition. Guided by dedicated teachers and caregivers, we inspire, engage and gently prepare toddlers as they move into our Montessori primary environment.

Why a Specialized Toddler Environment?

Unlike a traditional playgroup setting, our Montessori approach acknowledges the unique developmental needs of toddlers. We focus on fostering independence, self-confidence, and a love of learning through carefully curated materials and activities. We believe in providing a prepared environment that supports the child's natural drive to explore and understand the world around them. Each child is encouraged to move at their own pace, making choices and engaging with activities that spark their individual interests.

Nurturing Tiny Explorers: The Toddler Environment
“He does it with his hands, by experience, first in play and then through work. The hands are the instruments of man's intelligence.” - Dr. Maria Montessori

Gentle Separation
We know that starting school is a significant milestone for both toddlers and their families. Our caring teachers support a smooth and loving transition, offering comfort and reassurance every step of the way. We permit a designated trusted adult, such as a parent, grandparent, or guardian, to stay on school premises until the child has established trust with the teacher, fellow peers, and the school setting.

Personalized Attention
With a low student-to-teacher ratio, each child receives the individual care and guidance they need to thrive at their own pace.

Our Toddler support approach

Safe and Predictable Routine
A consistent daily rhythm with thoughtfully planned activities helps toddlers feel secure, build trust, and develop self-discipline.

Fostering Independence
Through gentle encouragement, our teachers guide children to make choices, solve problems, and complete tasks on their own—building confidence and independence.

Partnering with Parents
We believe a strong home-school connection is key. Our team works closely with families to create a seamless learning experience by offering guidance on setting up Montessori-inspired spaces at home. Through regular communication and home visits, we help parents establish supportive routines that nurture their child's growth and independence.

Toddler Curriculum: Our curriculum is built around the fundamental needs of the toddler, focusing on building a strong foundation for future learning.

Respectful Guidance: Our trained Montessori teachers provide gentle and respectful guidance, observing each child's individual needs and interests. They create a nurturing environment where toddlers feel safe to explore and learn at their own pace.

Prepared Environment: Our classroom is designed with child-sized furniture and materials, allowing toddlers to move freely and engage comfortably. Everything is accessible and organized, promoting self-directed learning.

Practical Life Activities: We offer a variety of practical life activities, such as pouring, scooping, and dressing frames, which help develop fine motor skills, concentration, and a sense of order. These activities foster independence and a sense of accomplishment.

Sensorial Exploration: Toddlers learn through their senses. Our environment includes materials that stimulate their senses of touch, sight, sound, and smell. Sensorial activities like water play, play dough and themed sensory bins enhance their sensory development.

Pre-Writing Activities: To prepare for writing, children benefit from pre-writing activities such as scribbling, spraying and pincer grip activities  that strengthen their hand muscles.

Language Development: We encourage language development through storytelling, songs, and conversations. We introduce vocabulary through real objects and picture cards, fostering early literacy.

Independent Eating: We encourage toddlers to eat independently as part of developing essential life skills. Mealtimes are viewed as learning opportunities where children practice using their hands, utensils, and table manners in a calm, supportive environment.

Movement and Coordination: Toddlers are constantly on the move! Our environment provides opportunities for gross motor activities, such as climbing, walking, and carrying, which promote physical development and coordination.

Safe and Clean Space: Child safety and hygiene are our top priorities. We maintain a clean and sanitized environment, ensuring that all materials are safe and age-appropriate.

Toilet Training Support: We guide toddlers through gentle and encouraging toilet training, fostering independence and confidence in self-care routines.

Outdoor Play & Nature Exploration: A large outdoor space allows toddlers to experience nature and develop gross motor skills in a natural environment.

Social and Emotional Growth: We create a warm and supportive atmosphere where toddlers learn to interact with their peers and develop social skills. Our teachers guide them in building positive relationships and managing their emotions, encouraging social skills and emotional development.
