Celebrations and Events

At Little Florets' Montessori, festivals are celebrated in a way that respects the children's daily routine and learning cycle. Our goal is to introduce children to cultural diversity in an inclusive and engaging manner. These celebrations are free from religious aspects. Through art, music, stories, traditional clothing, and food, children get to explore the richness of various cultures.

Birthdays: Celebration of Life

In Montessori education, birthdays are celebrated with a unique and meaningful tradition known as the "Walk Around the Sun" or "Celebration of Life." This ceremony not only honors the child's special day but also provides a tangible representation of their growth and the passage of time.

The Ceremony:

  1. Setting the Scene: A representation of the sun, often a candle, is placed at the center of the room. Around it, months of the year are arranged in a circle, symbolizing the Earth's orbit.

  2. The Walk: The birthday child holds a globe, representing Earth, and walks around the sun once for each year of their life. As they complete each orbit, they pause to share photos and stories from that age, reflecting on milestones and experiences.

  3. Musical Accompaniment: Classmates often sing a song during the walk, emphasizing the Earth's journey around the sun and marking each year of the child's life.

Benefits of the Tradition:

  • Understanding Time: Children gain a concrete sense of time's passage and the concept of a year.

  • Personal Reflection: The child reflects on their personal growth and achievements.

  • Community Bonding: Sharing personal stories fosters a sense of community and mutual respect among classmates.

This Montessori birthday celebration beautifully intertwines education with festivity, making the child's special day both memorable and meaningful.

Vidhyarambam

Vidyarambham underscores the cultural emphasis on education and the belief that learning is a divine and lifelong journey. By initiating children into the world of letters in a ceremonial manner, it fosters a deep-rooted respect for knowledge and educators from an early age

Diwali

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time of joy and celebration at Little Florets Montessori. Our children delight in a variety of fun and meaningful activities, such as creating colorful rangoli patterns, making diyas, festive crafts, and listening to Diwali stories that share the spirit of the festival.

They also enjoy dressing up in traditional attire and learning about the significance of light, kindness, and togetherness. The vibrant celebrations help our little ones experience the cultural richness and values that Diwali brings.

Christmas

Christmas was a joyful and magical time for the children. They took part in festive activities like decorating the Christmas tree, crafting cheerful decorations, singing carols, and listening to heartwarming holiday stories. One of the most delightful experiences was making Christmas cookies—measuring and mixing ingredients, rolling out the dough, and cutting it into fun holiday shapes. They watched eagerly as the cookies baked, filling the room with a warm, sweet aroma. After a little wait, they finally enjoyed the delicious reward—tiny handmade cookies made with love and excitement.

Pongal

Pongal is a special time of gratitude and joy at Little Florets Montessori. Our children celebrate this harvest festival with traditional activities like applying marudhani(henna), filling colourful kolams, making Pongal pots, colouring pots and craft items, and learning about the significance of the festival through stories and songs. Kids enjoyed playing traditional games as well

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, they take part in pongal making celebrations that reflect the spirit of thankfulness and community. These joyful experiences help children connect with nature, culture, and the value of celebrating life’s blessings.

Events

At Little Florets Montessori, our calendar is filled with vibrant events that enrich the learning experience and celebrate the joy of childhood. From fun-filled activities for children to informative sessions for parents, each event is thoughtfully planned to support holistic development and build a strong school community.

We value the role of parents in a child’s learning journey. To support this, we conduct parent orientation programs, workshops on Montessori methods, open house sessions, and parent-teacher meetings. These events keep parents informed, involved, and empowered to play an active role in their child’s development.

Parents Workshop: Montessori learning

The Montessori Parent Workshop, specially designed for parents of children aged 2.5 to 6 years, offered valuable insights into the Montessori approach. Our Montessori educator explained and demonstrated the importance of the core areas—Practical Life, Sensorial, and Language—and how they build a strong foundation for math, writing, and lifelong learning.

The session also highlighted how our teachers (chithis) and caretakers (akkas) create a safe, nurturing environment, the significance of using fresh, daily materials, and practical tips for promoting screen-free engagement and teaching children about safe and unsafe touch at home.

The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, helping parents gain a deeper understanding of their child’s Montessori journey.

Celebrations

Kids Medical Camp

Comprehensive health checkup in collaboration with Dr. C. Satheesh and Dr. C. Shaalini from Apollo Children’s Hospital was conducted for kids. The screening included vision, hearing, and dental checkups, as well as height and weight assessments, helping us ensure each child is healthy and thriving.

Hindi play meetup

At Little Florets Montessori, we believe that language learning should be joyful and meaningful. Our Hindi Play Meetups offer young children a playful introduction to the Hindi language through stories, songs, rhymes, and hands-on activities.

What makes these sessions truly special is that they are led by enthusiastic parents from our own school community! This collaborative approach not only creates a familiar and friendly atmosphere for the children but also strengthens the bond between home and school.

These meetups are a wonderful way for children to build a connection with the language while having fun, expressing themselves, and learning together in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Independence Day

Dressed in colorful ethnic attire, the children joyfully participate in activities such as creating painting, singing patriotic songs, and listening to stories that highlight the significance of Indian independence. These experiences not only enrich their understanding of cultural heritage but also foster creativity, community spirit, and a sense of belonging.

Parent Workshop: Parenting Challenges

Parent Workshop at Little Florets' Montessori was a wonderful blend of fun, connection, and learning. The session began with lively ice-breaker games, including a round of Pictionary that had everyone laughing and guessing with enthusiasm—a perfect way to unwind after a busy day and build connections.

Parents then teamed up to discuss common parenting challenges. Each group shared their experiences, perspectives, and insights, creating a warm and supportive space for meaningful conversations. It was heartening to see parents open up and learn from one another.

The evening concluded with an insightful talk by Dr. Shalini Satheesh, a respected pediatrician, from our parent community, who spoke on child safety  the importance of teaching young children about body boundaries and child abuse. She emphasized the importance of open communication, early body awareness, and empowering children to speak up. Her talk was both eye-opening and deeply appreciated by all who attended.

It was a powerful evening that not only fostered community but also strengthened our shared commitment to raising safe, confident, and well-supported children.
